5 Reasons Thanksgiving can be good for your business
So it’s the first week of November and the holidays are just around the corner. Most companies are planning what to do for their end of year parties, gifts to clients, and getting their holiday cards printed. But what about Thanksgiving? Other than giving many employees a 4-day weekend and being the kick-off to the official retail shopping ‘season,’ Thanksgiving is largely ignored by businesses. Have you ever considered what you could do at Thanksgiving to make your company shine? Try something different this year. Instead of sending gifts and cards to clients at Christmas time, send cards (and gifts!) at Thanksgiving. It works because: 1 – You stand out from the crowd. By sending Thanksgiving cards, you are showing your clients that you appreciate their business when most other companies send cards in December to commemorate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc. Most offices are blanketed with cards by the end of December. Why not have your greeting card be the only one or just one of the few that are received later this month? 2 – You don’t need to worry about being politically correct. In today’s increasingly sensitive world, you don’t need to stress about how to express your end of year holiday joy. As far as I can tell, Thanksgiving is still a mostly controversy-free holiday. 3 – During challenging economic times, everyone is especially appreciative of clients. Why not take the holiday that is set aside specifically for giving thanks to thank your clients for their business and perhaps even some of your vendors who may have gone the extra mile for you in some way this year? 4 – It’s a great way to reach out to those prospects who may not have become clients. Yes, you can thank people who are not your clients (yet). What a great way to reach out without any mention of ‘closing the sale.’ It just might be the kind of gesture that solidifies their decision to sign your contract in a few weeks. 5 – It’s one less thing you need to check off your to-do list in December. Go ahead and get your cards this week and have them signed and addressed by the end of next week. If you need a large quantity, you may want to consider using a printing company. Many of them will also print the addresses on the envelopes and mail them for you. Be sure to mail during the week of November 16th so people receive your cards prior to ‘checking out’ during Thanksgiving Week. And let us be the first to wish you Happy Thanksgiving!
